Weddings

A wedding the size of your actual friends.

An eleven-room property is not a banquet hall, and we would rather say so than have you find out. What it suits is the wedding where everyone knows everyone — the whole party under one set of chinars, nobody shuttled in from a hotel across town, and the river going past the lawn the entire time. We have hosted weddings and functions here before — the photographs on this page are from them, not a rendering.

Harwan puts you minutes from the Mughal gardens and Dal Lake for the photographs, and far enough out of Srinagar that the evening belongs to you. Guests sleep in 7 private cottages and 4 suites — 11 in all, each with its own door rather than a corridor.

Floor seating laid out on carpets for a wazwan, with lanterns strung through the trees and the Zabarwan behind
Laid out for a wazwan: floor seating on the lawn, the cottages behind, the Zabarwan beyond them. Guests sit down at dusk and are still there long after the lanterns are the only light left.

The spaces

Where it happens

The lawns
Open ground between the cottages and the river, where a ceremony or a long table sits.
The gazebo
Covered, and the obvious place for vows or a registrar if the weather turns.
The fire pit
Where the evening ends. Lit after dark, and the reason most people stay up.
The restaurant
Cooks to order rather than to a buffet, so the menu is yours to decide.

The practicalities

The numbers

Sleeping
22 to 33 guests across 11 cottages and suites
Catering
The kitchen is industrial rather than domestic, so the number we can feed is not the constraint — only the number who can sleep here is.
Wazwan
The full traditional wazwan, prepared on request
Exclusive use
The whole property from ₹1,00,000 per day

What we need from you

Every wedding here is quoted on its own, because no two are the same shape. Tell us these and we will come back with what is possible and what it costs:

  • Your dates, and how many nights
  • How many guests, and how many staying over
  • Which functions — and whether any are outdoors
  • What you want served, and for how many sittings
  • Whether you need the property to yourselves

Ask early. The weeks either side of the autumn colour and the spring blossom go first, and a wedding takes the whole property rather than a room in it.

On the property

  • Swimming Pool
  • Restaurant with room-service
  • Boutique — Kashmiri cloth and craft
  • Gazebo
  • Fire pit
  • Multiple gardens
  • Access to the River
  • Complimentary in-house bicycle rental (subject to availability)
  • Facilities for the physically challenged
  • Free parking (first-come, first-served)
  • Wireless internet in public areas
  • Car rental service
  • Laundry
  • Non-smoking rooms

Tell us about the day

Send us your dates and roughly how many of you, and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right place for it.
