What we collect when you use this website, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do about it.
Who we are

What you give us
If you send an enquiry, we receive your name, phone number, and — if you choose to include them — your email address, the dates and accommodation you are asking about, the number of guests, and whatever you write in the message. Nothing on the form is collected that you have not typed.
We use it for one thing: to reply to you and arrange your stay. We do not sell it, and we do not add you to a mailing list.
Where it goes
An enquiry is stored in our reservations system, hosted by Wix, and a notification is emailed to us. Our email runs on Microsoft 365. Both providers process the data on our behalf and under their own security obligations.
If you choose to message us on WhatsApp instead, that conversation sits with WhatsApp under their terms, not ours.
What we measure
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read, and Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors move through the site — scrolling, taps and clicks — so we can see where pages are confusing.
Clarity records the session, not you. It masks text you type into forms, and we use it to improve the site rather than to identify anyone. Both tools set cookies in your browser. If you would rather they did not, your browser's settings can block cookies, and Google offers an opt-out for Analytics.
We also use the Meta Pixel, which tells Meta (Facebook and Instagram) that you visited this site, so that we can show our advertising to people who have looked at it and measure whether that advertising works. It sets cookies and shares your visit with Meta, who process it under their own terms. You can limit this in your Meta account's ad settings, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Booking elsewhere
If you book through Booking.com, MakeMyTrip, Goibibo or another travel site, that booking is made under their privacy terms. They pass us what we need to host you.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become bookings are kept while they are still useful to answer — ordinarily no more than a year. Records of actual stays are kept as long as Indian law requires us to, including the guest records hotels are obliged to maintain.
What you can ask for
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. Write to reservations@upanicottages.com and we will respond. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
